Mitch Hedberg passed away in 2005.
But an employee at Stan’s Donuts in Chicago made sure the comedian’s memory would live on forever this week – or at least until customer toss their receipts in the trash.
Equipped with the ability to control the type on receipts, Jon Becker posted the following image of one on Reddit. It quotes one of Hedberg’s best-known bits and reads:
“I don’t need a receipt for a doughnut. I’ll just give you the money, you give me the doughnut. End of transaction. We don’t need to bring ink and paper into this.”
Many trees around the nation likely agree with this statement.
“Most customers probably thought, ‘Jeez, this receipt is long,’” Becker told Yahoo News. “Very few people read all the stuff that gets printed on receipts. The few that did actually read it thought it was pretty funny, though.”
Becker is an aspiring comedian who moved to Chicago from California to study at Second City.
“I mostly just put the quote there because it’s delicious chocolate glazed irony to have that on a receipt at a doughnut shop,” Becker said.
And he’s clearly right.
